The Arizona desert is a great place to retire. There's no need to shovel snow. Many homes feature easy to maintain desert landscaping with no grass to cut. ...
Ranch style one floor homes are very popular so you'll never need to worry about climbing stairs. Also there is plenty to do no matter what you're interests are. And the cost of living can be reasonable as well depending on your lifestyle.
Retirement communities or should I say 'active adult communities' for residents 55 and older are very popular. Some are built around lakes with walking pathways and park benches. Some communities are built around golf courses. Other areas are simply zoned 55 or older. Inexpensive mobile home parks are very popular as well.
Where to live depends on what you like to do. For example if you love ballroom dancing, the best area to retire is Mesa, however if you don't mind hanging out with people of all ages, there are many places to dance in Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale. If you love plants, you may want to locate close to a botanical gardens. If you love animals you may want to locate near a zoo or animal shelter. If you love to swim and work out you might want to locate close to a fitness center that you like.
