Fountain Hills schools could face $734,000 budget shortfall

The Fountain Hills Unified School District is facing a potential budget gap of $734,000 for 2014-15, due mostly to a big drop in enrollment. The district is predicting a decline of about 124 students for next year, which will mean a decrease of about $630,000 in per-pupil funding from the state, according to Lisa Martinez, the district's chief financial officer. ...

At Superfund site in Scottsdale, new well to continue water cleanup

Since mid-December, workers have been drilling into Scottsdale's aquifer to build a new well designed to treat groundwater contamination in the area. The new well will replace the North Indian Bend Wash Superfund Site's current well at the southeastern corner of Miller and Thomas roads. The old well is more than 50 years old and no longer meeting filtration standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, said Rusty Harris-Bishop, an EPA representative based in San Francisco. ...

Cottonwoods to offer Paradise Valley new plans for redeveloping resort

The Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort and Suites will bring a revised redevelopment plan to the table this week after opposition from the town of Paradise Valley and nearby residents. Fountain Hills council gives OK to start Saguaro Blvd. work

Reconstruction of Fountain Hills' Saguaro Boulevard, the town's busiest street, is likely to be under way by year's end, and November's fuel-truck spill shouldn't cause any delays. Fountain Hills Town Council to hear Adero Canyon plans

A proposed residential project dating 15 years will be considered next month by the Fountain Hills Town Council, bringing with it opposition mostly from Scottsdale residents.
