Contra, zydeco, and square ddancing doesn't seem to be as popular as it once was. Also there's a good mix of people who take dance lessons. Years ago almost everyone was over 40 and more likely over 60. Today it's very common to see people of all ages taking dance lessons even teenagers and people in their early 20's.

To get up to date information do a google search for what you're interested and in what city or zip code. Another good source of information is Yelp and Google reviews. Remember to call ahead though because events can change last minute.

If you're in the Phoenix valley or the Phoenix metropolitan area, you'll find all the popular forms of dancing, ... swing, ballroom, salsa, tango, bachata, merengue, all latin american dancing, country, folk, contra, square dancing, ... You name, it's here.

Not only that but you'll find different forms of the same dance. e.g. If you love to swing dance, there are groups that do east coast, west coast, and the lindy hop style of swing. The styling makes these dance appear different and they are. Yet the footwork and many of the patterns are forms of the same basic dance. All three styles are 'related'.

Most of the dancers in Arizona, like anywhere else in the country are social dancers. They take a few lessons when they have time, and they may do many dances with fun being the only objective. Other dancers are more 'serious'. These are competition dancers who usually specialize in one or two forms of dance.

If you're a dance - a - holic, Phoenix offers you the most choices. Most of the nightlife in Phoenix starts with downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale, then radiates into Tempe, and Mesa, ...

Most of good dancers dance in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa area. This is where you'll find the highest concentration of dance studios, ballrooms, events, and venues in the entire State of Arizona.

Of course there are places to dance all over Phoenix and Arizona, but if you're absolutely crazy about dancing and want to go out almost every night of the week, the SE Phoenix Valley is where most of action is going on.

If you live in the Phoenix SE valley and you're a dancer, your biggest 'problem' will be choosing which dance to go to. On most nights there are several dances to choose from. You may want to go to all of them!
